Organic vapors are a major source of atmospheric pollution. They are directly responsible for a multitude of odors, and they can also supply to the atmosphere material that may react to form even less desirable components, such as smog. Most odour including industrial solvents, vent gases, and process fumes—can be eliminated and, in many cases, recovered for sale or reuse by adsorption in activated charcoal.
Activated carbon removes organic compounds from liquids and gases by a process known as "adsorption." The two common materials utilized in the production of Activated Carbons are bituminous coal and coconut shell.
Coconut carbon has micro pore diameter, meaning their pore diameter is less than 2nm. Coconut activated carbon is the best for capturing molecules and holding them firmly without allowing them to escape. Coal carbon has meso pore diameter, implying their pore diameter is between 2 to 50nm, and therefore, coal based activated carbon is best for absorbing vapors of low molecular liquids.
Zhulin Carbon offers many varieties of activated carbon made of both materials in granular and pelletized form.
Below are the types of activated carbon we often provide to our customers.
Activated carbon has micro or macropores that attract molecules and absorbs them. When the carbon becomes activated, it creates pores of different sizes on the surface of the carbon. These pores give a path to water or air to enter the internal surface which then traps the molecules of water or air. For this purpose, virgin activated carbon is an effective solution for removing harmful odors from the environment.
There are several applications that could utilize activated carbon to remove an odor. These applications include:
